Proposal to federate Mary Immaculate Catholic School and St Teilo’s Catholic School

St Teilo’s Catholic School has been working with the Federation of Tavernspite and Templeton Community Primary Schools since the retirement of its Headteacher in January 2023. The Governing Body failed to appoint a Teaching Headteacher post following two advertisements during the spring and summer of 2023.

As a Federation of two Community Schools, formal Federation between the Federation of Tavernspite and Templeton Community Primary Schools, and St Teilo’s Catholic School is not an option.

The Headteacher of Mary Immaculate Catholic School will resign in August 2023. In light of the challenges experienced in recruiting a permanent Headteacher by other Catholic Schools in Pembrokeshire, the Governing Body of Mary Immaculate Catholic School has, after considering the options available, agreed to consult on establishing a Federation, with St Teilo’s Catholic School identified as the most suitable option.

Meetings of the governing bodies of Mary Immaculate School and St Teilo’s Catholic School were held on 1^st March 2023 and 30^th January 2023 respectively with discussions concerning the future leadership arrangements at the schools. The resolutions of both governing bodies were to support the principle of Federation and that the process be led by the Local Authority. Subsequently, Cabinet considered the benefits of establishing a Federation at its meeting on 24^th April 2023, with approval being given to the Director of Education to commence statutory consultation.

This consultation document sets out the case for a change to the leadership and governance arrangements at Mary Immaculate Catholic School and St Teilo’s Catholic School with a view to establishing a Federation between the two schools.
