Public Consultation regarding changes to Pembroke Dock Library Opening Hours

Pembrokeshire County Council is currently facing its biggest financial challenge to date and like other council services, the Library Service is required to reduce its running costs to assist in the effort to deliver a balanced budget.

We believe we can reduce our running costs at Pembroke Dock Library with less impact on you by reducing our staffing numbers and by slightly reducing our opening times, which get very little use, rather than closing for a complete day of the week or 2 half days.

We know that our Wednesday evening 5-6.30 p.m. is one of our quietest times. We are therefore proposing that the library closes at 5 PM on Wednesdays. In addition, we have considered the viability of reducing our staffing from 3 to 2 on duty during the rest of our opening hours. We believe this is viable and think it will have less impact on you than closing for a complete day or 2 half days.

If we do implement this change, we intend to monitor its impact over the forthcoming financial year. If we find that the staffing reduction is not sustainable, we will consider again reducing opening hours, in order to increase our staffing levels, and will consult with you again at that point.
